Know Your Fiduciary Responsibilities – Retirement Plans, presented by of the Employee Benefits Security Administration (EBSA), is designed to improve workers’ retirement security by educating employers and service providers about their fiduciary responsibilities under the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA).
Plan sponsors and other fiduciaries have a solemn responsibility to protect the interests of the workers and retirees in their benefit plans. The presentation will provide employers and plan officials with an understanding of the law and their responsibilities and will focus on steps for avoiding the most common problems EBSA encounters in its enforcement activities. Alycya Henderson is the Supervisory Benefits Advisor for the Atlanta Regional Office, Customer Service Unit. Alycya began her career with the U.S. Department of Labor, Employee Benefits Security Administration (EBSA) in 1999 in the Boston Regional Office as a Student Benefits Advisor. She was hired as an Investigator in the Cincinnati Regional Office in 1999 and transferred to the Atlanta Regional Office in 2001. She became a Senior Investigator in March 2008 As Supervisory Benefits Advisor, Alycya manages a staff of nine Benefits Advisors who are responsible for providing technical information, guidance, and assistance to plan participants and their beneficiaries, plan administrators, fiduciaries, third party administrators, service providers, and other interested parties regarding rights and obligations under the statutory and regulatory provisions of the Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974 (ERISA), Health Insurance Portability Accountability Act (HIPAA), Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (COBRA), and other related legislation. Alycya holds a Juris Doctor degree from New England School of Law and a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Tennessee State University.
